Rivers state governor, Rotimi Ameachi has narrated his ordeal in the hands of security personnel at Akure airport on Thursday, saying that his life and that of his family is seriously under threat.

Addressing a press conference along side leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos , Ameachi said he had no premonition of what awaited him on his arrival at Akure airport.

“Honestly, if I  had the slightest premonition that I won’t be allowed into Ekiti State, I would have stayed back.

“What happened is that I got to Akure, Ondo State Ekiti, and as I drove to Ado Ekiti. Along the way, we ran into an armed military check point. What ordinarily would have lasted few minutes dragged on to about 30 minutes, I became worried. When I inquire from the soldiers why I was being delayed, the soldiers said that there was  a specific instruction for them not to allow me into Ekiti State.

“I told them to allow me speak to the Army Captain who led the team but they insisted that they will shoot me if I step forward. Usually I am not afraid of death, I am a catholic, a Christian for that matter. What I do as a catholic in such situation is to pray that God should accept my soul.

” However, on this occasion I had not prayed so I remained where I was. At that point Dr. ogunbiyi who was with me persuaded me that we should leave.

“So we drove off, but several kilometers away from there I noticed that the soldiers where directly behind us. They had followed us for over six kilometers that we drove. At this point I came down and demanded why they were following us. I told them that at least we were in Ondo and not Ekiti.

“The Army captain then told me that they had a standing order that I should not be allowed close to Ekiti. I then put a call across to the party leaders who were in Ekiti. They told me that they were aware of the situation and that they had sent some of the party leaders to the place.

“At this juncture I decided to stay out, having said my prayers and sincerely speaking I was ready to die. I know that my life is under threat and that was why I had to drive to Abuja from Kano Airport when my aircraft was grounded and the air space shutdown.

“In Kano, it was a different scenario, from where I was I could see an armored personnel carrier with its rifle pointing at me. So I know that PDP is after my life, but let me tell them that I am not afraid to die at any time”
