The Kano State government has upheld the decision of the Kano state House of Assembly to suspend the Managing Director of the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) for refusing to appear before it to defend the budgetary allocations to the company.
This was contained in a statement issued by the state commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba.
According to the commissioner, the legislative decision is within the ambit of the law and in the exercise of its constitutional responsibility.
The commissioner said the state government believed in the rights of the state Assembly to invite Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to defend their budget proposal and wondered at the decision by the Managing Director to decline the invitation.
The statement also urged all heads of MDAs to always endeavor to religiously observe the annual budget defence by honouring such invitations for effective running of government.
