KNSG, banks to empower Kano youths

A Lagos based organization, Xmedia, has been engaged to train at least 32 young entrepreneurs from Kano state.

The programme, termed ‘Innovate Kano’ was initiated by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to Kano state governor on Lagos affairs, Mr Anthony Dominic Oneya, in collaboration with the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Youth and Economic Empowerment, Alhaji Habib Badawa.

In the programme, the organization would train the selected youths, which would be drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, on different entrepreneurial skills such as in the area Information and Communication Technology (ICT), leather works, rubber processing and garment making.

In his opening remarks, Alhaji Habib Badawa, said the aim of the programme was to empower the youths, especially the rural dwellers, as three beneficiaries would be selected from each of the 44 local government areas of the state.

“After the training, which will last for three months in Lagos, the trainees will be divided into 11groups of 14 members each and a corporate account will be open to them so that they will operate as a
corporate entity where they would employ others,” Badawa, said.

On his part, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who represented Governor Ganduje, expressed appreciation to the initiators of the programme, saying it is in line with the state
government’s policy on youths development and poverty alleviation.

“The state government has come up with a programme “ Matasa Madogara” in which young men would be trained to become self-reliant. Also the government would spend about N3bn for the construction and equipment of a modern skills acquisition centre for youth training and
empowerment ,” he said.

The SSG said government would pay close attention to the safety and security of the beneficiaries and ensure that that funds that would be used for the programme come from a legal and reliable sources Earlier, the representative of Xmedia, Mr Olawole Johnson, said the programme was meant to bring in new innovations to Kano through youths  training and some banks like Unity and Heritage would sponsor the programme.
