The Kano State Pharmaceutical Inspection Committee has sealed-off 10 pharmaceutical stores in the state metropolis over unethical practices.

A press statement from the state ministry of health, signed by its Public Relations Officer, Malam Ismail Garba Gwammaja, indicted that the affected stores were closed for sales of fake and substandard drugs to the public, an act considered to be “injurious to public health”.

The secretary of the committee Pharmacist Samaila Chiroma explained that some of the pharmacies were found guilty of selling fake and unregistered drugs as well as unethical practices such as giving drip in their premises.

He said, “Some of them are operating in dirty environment and sale of prescribed drugs in the absence of a pharmacist which is against the ethics of the profession.”

Chiroma urged all and sundry in the pharmaceutical industry to always respect the ethics of the profession in the interest of protecting lives of the general public.

He added that the committee would continue to inspect all pharmaceutical premises in the state to ensure strict adherence to the norms and laws guiding the practice.
