Kogi comits to fairness in project distribution

The Kogi State Government has reinstated its resolve to spread networks of projects across the state, including infrastructural development in educational institutions to enhance unity and even development.

The state Commissioner for Works, Engineer Muhammedi Yusuf disclosed this yesterday at Abejukolo during a media tour inspection of ongoing projects in the East Senatorial District of the state.

He said the ongoing reconstruction of the 10-kilometre Bagana-Abejukolo dual carriage road in Abejukolo, the headquarters of Omala Local Government Area and road projects under construction in other districts is a fluid of unity.

Yusuf says the projects is an attempt of the present government under Usman Ahmed Ododo to ease the transportation of farm produce and movement of people to improve their livelihoods and boosting the economy of the state.

“We commend Gov. Ododo for the love he has for the people at the grassroots by creating accessibility from one community to another, in order to ease movement of motorists and farm produce from the farms to the markets”, he said.

Equally, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo noted that the commitment of the present administration to balancing projects across the three senatorial districts of the state is a no going back .

“It is not about executing projects, but it is about balancing the projects across the three senatorial districts of the state”, said Fanwo.

Fanwo assured that the government will continue to strive in order to improve the living standard of the people, especially citizens at the grassroots, for them to feel the impact of dividend of democracy.

He added that the erosion control and road projects of the government being handled by Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) project, had drastically reduced flooding and erosion menace in Ankpa town.

However, they said government will double its efforts to ensure that the Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Anyigba and College of Education ,Ankpa is given a serious attention to reposition them for academic excellence.

According to Fanwo , the reintroduction and accreditation of MBBS course at PAAU and provision of basic needs of students at college of education(CEO), ,Ankpa is a move in that direction.

In his remarks, the provost of the college of Education Ankpa , Dr Femi Fashagba applauded governor Ododo for restoring water and light back to the institution ,after being out of function for years .

“Within six months that I resumed office, the governor restored light and water back to the institution. Before I assumed office , the students were sourcing their water need from a nearby stream; and reading under street light”, he said.

Also, the Vice Chancellor of PAAU, Marietu Tenuche says the coming on the stream of the faculty of Health Science in the institution has increase the number of faculties being run in the institution from 6 to 8

She said effort is being intensified to ensure the institution meets the necessary requirements of the NUC for full accreditation of the MBBS course to avoid mishap of the past.

“The state government has restructured the faculty, equipping it with the necessary medical materials . With the teaching hospital almost ready ,and kitted , the faculty of medicine has come to stay”, she said .
