The Kogi State Government has kick-started the construction of a multi-billion naira international airport, following the handover of the project to contractors in Zariagi on the outskirts of Lokoja, the state capital.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented at the ceremony by the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku, described the development as a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure drive.

Speaking at the project site, Atuluku said the airport is designed to boost economic activities and improve connectivity in the state.

He noted that the facility, when completed, is expected to attract investment, create jobs and enhance trade.

He added that the project is part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure and support economic growth.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the timely completion of the project, pledging to deploy the necessary resources to meet set timelines.

He said the airport would serve as a key infrastructure to support economic development and improve the state’s competitiveness.

The project was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Construction Company, with a mandate to deliver it in line with the required standards.

The governor urged the contractors to ensure quality work and adhere strictly to specifications, while also calling for cooperation from the host community to ensure smooth execution.

He also assured investors of adequate security, noting that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property.
