Kogi farmers urged government to make fertiliser available

Speaking on behalf of other farmers, the President of Kogi State chapter of Women in Agriculture, Esther Audu, said farmers were yet to receive fertiliser in the state.
She said farmers registered under the Growth Enhancement scheme (GES) have not received fertilisers through the programme, adding: “As you are aware, the raining season has set in and till this moment we have not received any alert for the fertilisers. And very soon, there are some crops that would be too late to apply fertilisers on them. Hence, they should make it available to us when it is needed. This is the time we need fertilizers.”
She said that farmers hoped that the new government would soon make fertiliser available to them, pointing out that bringing the fertilisers late would affect their yields.
Audu called on the newly sworn-in president, Muhammad Buhari, to face agriculture squarely by making inputs available to farmers on time for the betterment of the farmers and the nation.
