The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, has reiterated that he will never abandon the legal battle to reclaim his mandate, saying justice would be done to the people of the state.
In a statement he personally signed, Ajaka debunked the story (not in Daily Trust) making the rounds that he had agreed to jettison the legal fight against Governor Usman Ododo.
He stated, “It is important to clarify that I have never had any discussion, either personally or through a representative, with them (Governor Ododo) about abandoning this important fight. I am fully committed to pursuing the legal battle to regain the mandate freely given to us by the people of Kogi State.
“This fight is not just for me but for the impoverished, terrorised and dehumanised people of Kogi State, and for the families of those who were killed, injured and forcibly taken away.
“We have followed all the necessary legal procedures to ensure that our appeal is heard and determined within the given timeframe, and I am confident that we will be successful.”
Recall that the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, last month affirmed the election of Governor Ododo, dismissing the petition filed by the SDP candidate, who has since approached the Court of Appeal to challenge the judgement.
