The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has raised alarm over the rising cases of violence and insecurity in Kogi State ahead of the November 11 governorship election in the state.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the national chairman of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, however, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene for peace to reign. 

He said, “I urge President Tinubu to see the off-season gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo States as avenue to prove his leadership qualities before the international community.

“He should call his Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and others to rise and restore order in Kogi State to avert anarchy.

“The SDP is worried about the level of growing insecurity ahead of the election. But we are going to remain focused; we will not be distracted. We are calling on all our members to come out in their numbers and cast their ballots.”
