The Kogi State Police Command said it has arrested 40 suspects in the last one week following an intensive raid of criminal hideouts across the state.

This is in a bid to ensure a crime free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Lokoja.

He said those in custody include suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and cattle rustlers.

He added that 30 of the suspects were arrested by his men for offences bordering on kidnapping and armed robbery while the 10 others were suspected cattle rustlers arrested by the army and handed over to the command.

Inalegwu said exhibits recovered from the suspects include locally made weapons, live ammunitions and military camouflage, amongst others.

He said the suspects were undergoing investigations and would soon be charged to court.

The CP commended members of the public for feeding the police with useful information about criminal activities, which he noted had led to reduction in crime rate in the state.

Inalegwu said that as part of proactive policing measures, the command has been engaging farmers and herders in dialogue to ensure peaceful coexistence.
