The Kogi State Police Command said it has rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Sunday Amupitan, and arrested two suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the crime.

The victim was said to have been abducted from his Surulere, Kabba residence on July 19, tied up and dumped in the boot of a Honda car.

A statement from Kogi State police spokesman, William Aya, said that acting on a distress call, operatives from Kabba Division, led by the DPO, “promptly moved to the scene while the suspects were racing away in a Honda Accord with Reg. No. APP 444 DA”

Aya said in a bid to escape arrest, the suspected kidnappers abandoned their vehicle and fled.

“The Area Commander in Kabba led a team of personnel in combing the scene for clue of identity of suspects at large in which a mobile phone belonging to one of the kidnappers was recovered.

“Quick analysis of the phone led to the arrest of one of the suspects named Ayodele, 30, of Garupa Street Kabba. On interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the kidnappers,” Aya said.

He said the arrested suspect mentioned other members of the syndicate of five which led to the arrest of another suspect, Tunde Emmanuel, alias Eleje, of Odo-Ofin Kabba.

Aya said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that those arrested would be charged to court on completion of investigation.

He said that the Kogi State Police Command would not relent in its determined efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality through proactive strategies.
