A student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has been stabbed to death by his roommate who is suspected to be mentally unstable.

Daily Trust learnt that the suspect, Agba Victor, a HND 1 Accounting student, allegedly attacked the deceased, identified as Akoh Abuh Samuel, with a machete in his room for unknown reason.

The incident happened at Felele, in the outskirts of the institution’s convocation ground.

The late Samuel, a student of Public Administration and the suspect were said to be friends right from their National Diploma days.

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased, who sustained machete cuts on his neck and head, died on the way to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital. 

Confirming the incident, spokesman of the institution, Luke Yakubu, told journalists that the suspect started acting strange towards the deceased last Sunday.

“When the late roommate and neighbours discovered this strange behaviour from Victor, they took him to the church for prayers.

“They were best of friends since their National Diploma days and also attended the same fellowship. Later that night, nature caught up with the deceased, and his friend used machete to kill him.

“After the matcheting, he (suspect) told us that he threw the cutlass inside a well. He even came back to the room where the incident occurred. 

“The police are still carrying out their investigation, because he was not mad when he gained admission into our institution. All this so-called strange behaviour started on Sunday,” he said. 

Spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, Mr Williams Aya, who confirmed the incident added that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
