The KSU chapter of the unions under the aegis of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in a protest to the palace of the traditional ruler of Anyigba, His royal highness, Alhaji Abu Shuaibu Okolo, blamed the ‘rapid decline” of academic standard of the institution on its management led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hassan Isah.
The university, which was rated number one amongst state universities in the country and number seven amongst all universities in Nigeria some years ago, was recently rated number 111 out of 112 universities in the country.
While submitting a protest letter to Okolo for onward delivery to the state governor, Capt. Idris Wada, the workers said the situation has led to a serious drop in academic quality at the university.
The workers, who called for the removal of the vice chancellor, regretted that a few years ago, when late Professor Francis Idachaba was at the helms of affairs, the institution was the envy of other universities. They said poor welfare of teachers and gross mismanagement have led to brain drain in the institution, just as they demanded the implementation of a 2009 agreement they entered into with the government, threatening to go on strike first week of next month if it is not implemented.
