The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening quality basic education and digital learning in Kano State through the donation of essential educational materials to the UBE Smart School.

The donation ceremony was led by the KOICA Country Director, Mr. Eunsub KIM, who headed a KOICA delegation on a monitoring and support visit to the school. The visit formed part of KOICA’s ongoing Smart Education intervention, which aims to improve learning outcomes, strengthen school-level infrastructure, and support the effective integration of digital tools in basic education.

The visit focused on the donation of learning materials to pupils and teachers, monitoring the commencement of the new academic session, and assessing the post-maintenance status of KOICA-funded facilities within the school, including the Content Development Studio and Public Address System.

Donation Highlights

As part of the intervention, KOICA donated 500 school bags; 1,000 notebooks; 1,000 writing pens; and Mathematical sets.

The mathematical sets were distributed to pupils in the primary section to support foundational numeracy skills and promote academic excellence at an early stage of learning. In addition, KOICA donated diaries and external hard drives to teachers to enhance lesson planning, instructional delivery, and digital content development.

The ceremony was attended by key Kano State education stakeholders and school leaders, including Mr. Maikudi Abdul Al-Alawi, Director, Smart School Programme; Mr. Zaharaddeen Ibrahim Wali, Principal; Mr. Ali Sabo Muhammad, Vice Principal JSS, Mrs. Ruslana Aminu, VP Primary, Mrs. Fatima Lawan Mahe, VP ECCDE alongside representatives of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and community leaders.

Speaking during the visit, KOICA emphasized the importance of combining physical learning materials with digital infrastructure to create inclusive, learner-centred, and resilient education systems. The intervention aligns with national and state-level priorities to improve access to quality education, strengthen teacher capacity, and leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

KOICA reiterated its commitment to continued collaboration with federal and state education authorities to support sustainable smart education solutions and contribute to Nigeria’s human capital development.
