The chairman who was represented by Alhaji Lawal Abasawa, said the yearly ceremony slated during the harvest period, flags off full business in the tomato market.
He said arrangements have been concluded to improve standard at the market so that the businessmen and the local government council would benefit optimally from its output.
He also called on the newly inaugurated committee to work hard in discharging its duties and ensure financial prudence in generating revenue from the market with which the local council will execute some developmental projects in the area.
“God willing, the revenue generated in the market will be used in improving the standard of the market and other developmental projects in its neighborhood,” he said.
Kokami tomato market is an old establishment that deals solely with tomatoes and other vegetables. Peasants and large scale farmers in Danja Local Government Area are the main sources of commodities in the market.
During its booming period of the year – October to February – several trucks are loaded every market-day with baskets of tomatoes to various states of the country that include Imo, Anambra, Delta and Lagos.
