Chinedu Ezeala-Ogundare, Secretary, NTF, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that the third edition of the championships was rescheduled due to logistic reasons.
Ezeala-Ogundare disclosed that the competition will now hold between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5 at the same venue.
The secretary said that among the countries expected to participate in the championships are Togo, Ghana, Republic of Benin, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroun
She advised teams expected to take part in the competition to arrive on Nov. 30 as registration and weighing-in would commence on arrival.
“We have concluded plans to register teams on arrival, while the officials will weigh the athletes to group them according to their various weight categories,’’ the secretary said.
Ezeala-Ogundare, however, failed to disclose the specific prizes to be won by the athletes.
According to her, LG electronics was at the 2nd edition held last year and gave out gift items such as plasma television, refrigerators and CD players.
She noted that taekwondo kits were also given to participants, adding, “we are expecting them to improve on the gift items this year as a form of encouragement’’.
The NTF secretary said that participants were, however, to be responsible for their feeding and accommodation during the four-day competition to hold at National Stadium, Abuja.
Ezeala-ogundare said that the annual competition was aimed at promoting the martial art in West Africa. (NAN)
