For the past few weeks, traffic flow along the Nyanya-Mararaba axis has improved, even as the gridlock usually noticed on Wednesdays as result of the weekly Nyanya market is now being controlled by the combined efforts of the army, police, FRSC, civil defence and VIO. This by extension clears the traffic and facilitates easy flow of vehicles from AYA to Nyanya.

I wish to appreciate the efforts of the officials responsible for this improvement and urge them to maintain the tempo. Movement along that axis which takes thousands of vehicles everyday would be hard if such effort is not sustained. I urge the authorities concerned to please, sustain it.

FG, please free Sowore now

I wish to appeal to the federal government to release the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, from continued detention, as it is adding to dented national image. It is clear that the DSS is not acting on its own by holding him or re-arresting him, as the agency cannot act outside the authority of the federal government. I therefore charge President Muhammadu Buhari to direct officials of his government to release Sowore now, as directed by the court.

That PHCN strike

When I heard that members of the National Union of Electricity Employees went on strike on Wednesday I merely laughed. I laughed because that sector is one of the most hated in the country, and going on strike makes no significant difference. They collect money for services not rendered, and frustrate consumers’ efforts at enjoying electricity. So what does it matter if they go on strike?

Pay the new minimum wage

I hear that the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday issued a December 31, 2019, ultimatum to the 36 state governments to conclude all negotiations and commence payment of the new national minimum wage. I am sure all states can pay the new minimum wage if the governors take it serious because it is just a fraction of the benefits enjoyed by government officials.
