Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello recently brought relief to workers of the FCT Administration with the launching of the first phase of mass transit support scheme comprising of 25 high capacity buses.

The scheme was conceived as a palliative to cushion the effect of economic hardship and difficulty in vehicular transportation of members of staff to and from the office.

It is also in fulfillment of the Minister’s promise on palliatives for the workers of the Administration to boost their welfare.

This gesture by the FCT Minister is a welcome development because the welfare of staff remains topmost for increased productivity and quality service delivery to the residents of the Territory. It is the least that is expected of every forward thinking administration in order to develop good relationship with its workers.

With this development, such routes as Nyanya/Karu; Mararaba/Masaka; Keffi/Nasarawa and Suleja/Zuba; Kubwa; Gwagwalada/Lugbe; Jikwoyi/Karshi; Dutse/Bwari as well as Kuje would be duly serviced to ease movement and reduce transportation cost for workers of the FCT Administration. In addition, other routes as Keffi in Nasarawa State and Suleja in Niger State would also get due attention.

Members of staff would be conveyed on subsidized fares from all the routes within the Federal Capital Territory to boost their morale and prevent dissatisfaction at work place.

As the Minister stated, the FCT Administration intends to boost the operation of the Scheme and to make it more vibrant, by collaborating with development partners in getting more buses as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to expand the scope of its operation to cover staff of other Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the Federal Capital Territory.

The commissioning of these buses has demonstrated the unwavering commitment of the FCT Administration to the welfare of the members of staff.

It is a rare demonstration of selfless leadership and high degree of love that the FCT Minister has for the residents of FCT as well as his empathy for the hardship being experienced by many families who have been hit hard by the economic downturn.

The scheme has also added to the Minister’s achievements in promoting industrial harmony by ensuring regular payments of salaries to staff even at the critical time of recession.

The scheme would boost the morale of the staff and reduce stress of their transportation needs, to and from their respective offices.

Punctuality will also be assured as the buses are expected to ply 11 routes within the FCT and contiguous states to arrive FCTA secretariat by 7:30am and depart offices by 4:30pm to their various destinations to ensure accountability.”

It is hoped development will go a long way to alleviate the hardship of workers in terms of getting to work as early as possible for those who are not mobile.

There is however need for the FCT Administration to ensure that these buses are maintained with every sense of duty and responsibility so that they serve their purpose.

In all, the FCT Minister and other officials of the FCT Administration deserve commendation for this kind and wonderful gesture.
