Kuje bypass to cost N47.8m – Council boss

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, has said the bypass road project the council has embarked upon will gulp N47, 848, 815.

Speaking when he received the Secretary of the Area Council Services Secretariat, Adamu Abubakar Bappah, on Tuesday in his office, Galadima said the construction of the bypass was to ease traffic in the area.

He said the project, which had already been awarded, would comprise of asphalt overlay.

The chairman also said that the council provided drugs worth N8 million to 45 health care centres in the area within the last one year.

He told the secretary and members of his team that his administration has awarded contract for the sinking of 20 boreholes across 20 rural villages, saying the first tranche of the project was awarded at the sum of N15, 601,950 which he added, covered 10 communities.

He said 10 boreholes have already been completed, while the second batch of the boreholes was awarded at the cost of N20,377, 625,  and work was already ongoing in villages in the area.

The chairman, however, said on assumption of office, he was faced with a lot of challenges ranging from debt to the tune of N1. 6 billion, which he said, resulted to litigations to the extent that the council’s account was garnished by court orders.

The chairman commended efforts of the FCT administration in the area of ecological intervention, which he said has become a matter of concern to the people of the council.

The secretary commended the council chairman for his efforts to provide viable projects, especially the sinking of boreholes in villages.
