The wife of Kuje Area Council Chairman, Hajiya Salamatu Sabo, has donated food items to five orphanages in the area as part of efforts to improve the living standard of the orphans.
Sabo, while handing over the items, said the gesture was to support handlers of the homes.
According to her, the gesture was in line with the area council’s vision and mission of creating a healthy and conducive environment for children to learn and grow.
She observed that there was more joy in giving than receiving, saying majority of children in the country need such assistance to survive.
“The children have done nothing wrong to find themselves in the situation they are today. I plead with people, who have more than enough, to help them,” she said.
She therefore called on philanthropists as well as corporate bodies come to their aid. The chairman’s wife also assured the orphanages that their demands would be tackled by the council.
The food items donated included bags of rice, noodles, cartons of milk, spaghetti, cornflakes and cash.
The five orphanages visited are Christ Foundation Widows Outreach, Treasure Home, Al-ansar, Vintage and Divine, and Hand of Hope in the area.
