The Episcopal ordination and installation are slated for September 8, 2011 at the Giginya Memorial Stadium in Sokoto.
Monsignor Kukah who is Vicar General of Kaduna Catholic Diocese was in June named the bishop of the Sokoto Diocese. He is to replace Most Rev Kevin Aje who has put numerous years in service.
Monsignor Kukah’s elevation has elicited widespread commendations.
Already, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed happiness saying, “As you assume duty as the bishop of Sokoto Diocese, I am confident that you will continue to use the pulpit to advance the cause of peace, progress, prosperity, harmony and justice in Nigeria.”
Barrister Mike Utsaha who once worked with Kukah said he (Kukah) has been a very humble individual from a modest background and he has worked all his life for the good of Christians and Nigerians as a whole.
Kukah who hails from Kaduna State is a remarkable priest who has extended his area of service from the pulpit to the political arena.
But he has never sought to be elected—all he does is he undertakes assignments given to him by government.
