Kani also said there was pressure on the association over the long-awaited assistance.

“The fire incident occurred two years ago and as leaders we tried to pacify our members that all was going to be fine, but for how long? This delay in redeeming the pledges causes a lot of accusations. So there is the need for our members to know that the association did not receive anything from Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency,” Kani said.

He said after the fire incident, officials of the agency came to the scene and recorded the damages caused by the fire and the number of people affected. And since then, he said, the victims are still expecting.

The chairman then pleaded with the state government to kindly look into the plight of the victims by assisting them so as to help them go back into business.

Commenting on the issue, the Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Kasim, who was recently deployed to the agency, confirmed that the victims have not been given any assistance. According to the secretary, even though the agency is facing the problem of shortage of funds, it would take up the issue and address it.
