KUST, Wudil’s giants stride

It was not long time ago when we got admitted to the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil. To be very honest, sometimes it feels just like yesterday. February 4th, 2017 marks an important day in our lives as it was the day of our graduation ceremony. Among the graduands were 3,212 undergraduate students and 31 post graduate students being conferred with Bachelor degrees and Masters Degrees.
I looked around me and I noticed that not all those that we got admitted were opportune to wear the graduation robe. My colleague Rabiu Alhassan Kabo and I were so overwhelmed by the Vice Chancellor, Shehu Alhaji Musa, as he read out some immeasurable achievements recorded under his watch that we remained speechless.
Apart from seven new institutes, centres and directorates, the recruitment of two hundred and forty two (242) academic staff amongst which there are 115 professors made me shiver with joy. The collaboration of the university with international institutions and centers such as Chinese Academy of Science, University of Twente, Netherlands; Purdue USA, Russian Agrarian University, Abartey University, UK amongst others. So also additional 15 different bachelor programmes and commencement of Doctoral degree programmes in Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Microbiology etc.
To others graduation may simply be equated with ‘the end of the tunnel’ or a breath of relief or an exultation of freedom but after years under the nurture of our alma mater we know it is much more than any of those.
I have always known that a person’s goals are the road maps that guide one to show one what is possible in one’s life. Our parents and our lecturers especially our HOD Dr. Sanusi Ahmad Yakubu has always been our guide.
And finally I wish my alma mater to keep attaining greater heights so that all its alumni can rub shoulders with others nationally and internationally. To the VC Shehu Alhaji Musa on whose watch the university has experienced tremendous overhaul, I say more power to you elbows. To my fellow colleagues may Allah make our lives successful here and the hereafter.
