The Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Joseph K. Shazin, has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the council that their outstanding allowances would be paid to them.
Shazin, who made the promise during a meeting with the corps members in his office on Wednesday, said the council was not unaware of the backlog of unpaid allowances, adding that the delay was as a result of lack of funds.
He said the delay was further compounded by the high number of corps members that were posted to the council, which added to the burden on the finances of the area council.
He said the council had already discussed the welfare of corps members during the executive council meeting last week, and resolved to pay all the outstanding allowances of all the corps members before the end of the year.
“The council is fully aware of the delay of your allowances, and I am assuring all the corps members here that we shall pay you all your allowances before the end of the year,” he said.
The chairman said that the council was also making arrangements to expand the corps members lodge in the area.
