Kwankwaso/Ganduje feud: Wisdom should always prevail

The ongoing feud between Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya blocs in Kano State if not properly handled is capable of leading to the eventual failure or even disintegration of the state’s chapter of APC before the 2019 general election. This avoidable situation shouldn’t have been allowed to become completely out of hand in the first place. The most fundamental issue of contention is that of party leadership in the state.

The APC in the state is technically divided into two distinct groups. There is the leadership of Abdullahi Abbas which enjoys the support and blessings of the state government, and there is the group of Umar Haruna Doguwa which is fiercely supported by Senator Kwankwaso. This supremacy battle between the two political heavyweights had seriously affected the performance of both Governor Ganduje and Senator Kwankwaso, in the sense that they have not been allowed to fully settle down and concentrate on their respective duties. Both camps have been engaged in accusations, counter accusations and criticisms.

The whole issue had degenerated to this level simply because the national leadership of the party had initially failed to resolve the impasse once and for all. Governor Ganduje is doing well in the state in spite of the prevailing economic downturn in the country. He has never defaulted in the area of salary obligations in the state. His performance in the area of infrastructural facilities is also commendable.

Senator Kwankwaso should also be commended because his contribution in terms of bills sponsorship in the senate is absolutely magnificent. This feud between Governor Ganduje and Senator Kwankwaso is very disturbing because the relationship that existed between the two was a relationship that was built based on trust, understanding and respect towards each other. It was a relationship that was developed and nurtured for many years. But the trust and respect have now been replaced by criticisms, accusations and even hate. Advisably, they should sit down and reflect on those beautiful moments when they used to work in harmony with one another for many years. Senator Kwankwaso should remember the fact that Governor Ganduje had previously demonstrated a very rare and absolute loyalty towards him.

Governor Ganduje should equally remember that Senator Kwankwaso chose him to be his deputy for the first and second occasions [1999-2003, 2011-2015]. In view of the given foregoing, the two political gladiators should not allow their personal interests to spoil their long standing mutual relationship. They should prevail on their supporters to avoid making inciting statements that could jeopardize the chances of any peaceful settlement.

Senator Kwankwaso should be magnanimous enough to forgive Governor Ganduje and concentrate on his legislative duties. Governor Ganduje should also be considerate enough to forgive Senator Kwankwaso and concentrate on governing the state. Wisdom should always prevail over personal interests because it is only then they will be politically better off.
