Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says there is no internal crisis in the party.

Kwankwaso said this in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa.

He said the NNPP remains open to alliances with leaders from any party including the APC, PDP or ADC, provided prospective partners demonstrate credibility and a clear commitment to social justice.

“We are waiting for everybody. Up till now, whether it’s APC, PDP, ADC, Jonathan or Peter Obi, if we are convinced you are eligible, we will come, merge and support you. What we want is a credible leader,” he said.

He listed the party’s priorities as empowering the poor, educating youth and tackling insecurity across the country, citing volatile hotspots such as Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and parts of Kaduna.

Kwankwaso criticised what he described as an elite class that has abandoned struggling communities while enriching itself.

“If you want us with you, then the poor must benefit and be liberated; our youth must be educated. Look at the insecurity we are battling, people are being killed. The elites have fled to Abuja into big houses… They seem only concerned with stealing public funds, buying cars and houses, taking appointments and intimidating people. What we know is that God will judge them,” he said.

Dismissing reports of internal strife within the NNPP, KWankwaso said efforts to destabilise the party, including more than 1,000 court cases lodged against it, had failed.

“There is no internal crisis in the NNPP. They took us to more than a thousand courts and have not succeeded. We are not in conflict with anybody.

“What they fail to understand is that those who registered the party initially were not politicians, it was more like someone trying to dispose of something worthless, hoping to find gold inside. Now we have taken it, and we have a governor, representatives and senators. They now realise we have elevated it to a whole new level,” he said.
