Kwara: 8 Aspirants in Race for Kaiama APC Reps Ticket as Consensus Fails

No fewer than eight aspirants are contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives in the Baruten-Kaiama Federal Constituency in today’s primary election, following the collapse of consensus arrangements among party stakeholders.

Efforts by APC leaders to reach a unified position reportedly broke down after extensive consultations across the constituency failed to produce a consensus candidate.

Daily Trust had earlier reported that six aspirants rejected what they described as attempts to impose a candidate on the constituency.

At a meeting held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the aspirants said they would not accept any decision that would weaken democratic process, insisting to preserve the unity of the APC.

The aspirants are Aliyu Umar Mande; Comrade Abubakar Musa Shamaki; Aliyu Muhammad Saiffudeen; Halidu Danbaba; Malam Anas Adamu Galadima (Zam-Zam); and Aliyu Abubakar Ibrahim.

However, a statement from the party indicated that following the collapse of consensus talks, all the aspirant are now in the race for the party’s reps ticket ahead of the general elections.

“However, given the reports that four aspirants may have been disqualified by the the APC National Headquarters, it appears that only the other four candidates may end up contesting in the primary election.

“They are Hon. Aliyu Umar Mande, Comrade Abubakar Musa Shamaki, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saiffudeen and Malam Anas Adamu Galadima (Zam-Zam).

“Party members across Kaiama and Baruten Local Governments have been encouraged by the Kaiama LGA Chapter of APC to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming primary and general elections.”
