Members of the All Progressives Congress in the Moro/Edu/Patigi federal constituency of Kwara State have appealed to the national leadership of the party to uphold the outcome of last Saturday’s House of Representatives primary election.

They insisted that the exercise reflected the collective decision of party members across the constituency.

The appeal comes amid growing political tension surrounding the primary.

The supporters of one of the aspirants warned against any attempt to alter the outcome of the exercise.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on behalf of the group, the spokesperson of the APC members in the constituency and a chieftain of the party in Moro Local Government Area, Alhaji Usman Akanbi, said party members across the constituency had freely spoken through the ballot and deserved to have their decision respected.

“We appeal to the leadership of the party to allow the results collated to remain unchanged because the people of Moro/Edu/Patigi have spoken their minds through the primary election,” Akanbi said.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the national chairman and secretary of the APC, as well as party officials involved in the conduct of the primary, to ensure that the outcome of the exercise is protected.

According to him, the agitation for the House of Representatives seat to shift to Moro Local Government Area is based on the need for fairness and political balance within the constituency.

Akanbi said Moro, predominantly a Yoruba-speaking community, had repeatedly sought the seat since the return of democracy in 1999 without success.

He said Edu and Patigi local governments had both produced representatives over the years.

He recalled that the late Engr. Yahaya Yunusa from Edu represented the constituency between 1999 and 2007, while the late Hon. Aliyu Ahman Patigi from Patigi served from 2007 to 2019.

According to him, Hon. Ahmed Ndakene Abubakar from Edu represented the constituency between 2019 and 2023, while the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Adamu Ahmed Saba, is also from Edu Local Government Area.

The APC chieftain said the political history of the constituency justified the demand for Moro to produce the next representative.

“It is time for the Yoruba-speaking community in Moro to produce the representative since the return of democracy in 1999,” he stated.
