The Muslim community of Iwo-Isin, Isin LGA of Kwara State, has launched a N1 billion ultra-modern central mosque project to serve the town’s growing population and Islamic needs.
Iwo-Isin, one of the 24 communities in the local government area situated in Kwara South, is known for its strong Islamic heritage and prominence in Qur’anic recitation. The new mosque will replace the existing central mosque, which was constructed 52 years ago.
The occasion also marked the official turbaning of the town’s new Grand Chief Imam, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakariyah, who recently relocated from Lagos State to assume the position following the passing of his predecessor.
The ceremony attracted royal fathers, Islamic scholars, politicians, and other dignitaries from within and outside the state.

In their separate addresses, the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Solomon Oloyede, and the Oniwo of Iwo-Isin, Architect Joshua Ayinla Olutade, commended Sheikh Zakariyah, describing him as a young but wise cleric.
They expressed confidence in his leadership, adding also that their presence as Christian leaders at the Islamic event underscored the peaceful coexistence and religious harmony in the community.
Delivering his sermon, the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Hussein, advised the new chief imam to prioritise unity among Muslims and to embrace all segments of the community, regardless of ideological differences.
“You are the imam of the entire community, not just a specific group,” he said, urging Sheikh Zakariyah to approach the role with patience, service and endurance—hallmarks of exemplary Islamic leadership.
Chairman of the occasion and Asoju Oba of Oro Kingdom, Alhaji Taiye Mustapha, described the turbaning as a symbol of unity and love. “The Imam was chosen because of the trust the people have in him. He must uphold that trust in line with the teachings of the Qur’an,” he stated.
In an interview following his installation, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakariyah expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the Iwo-Isin Muslim community, and all stakeholders for their support.
He pledged to use his position to promote unity and the growth of Islam in Kwara State.
