The Kwara State Police Command has arraigned a 40-year-old businessman, Usman Baba, for chaining the legs of one Aishat Ibrahim for two weeks.

According to Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspect carried out the act with his wife under the impression that the victim is possessed with the spirit of witchcraft.

The FIR reads in part: “The defendant, with his wife, who is at large, forcefully collected N100,000 from the Aishat’s parents as ransom for her release.

“Investigation conducted at the anti-kidnapping unit revealed that the duo and others at large have no respect for human dignity and are criminals who specialise in such evil practice in Edu LGA and its environs.”

The prosecutor, Zacchaeus Folorunsho, prayed the court to remand the defendant.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Dasuki, ordered the remand of the accused in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to August 22.
