A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Wednesday dismissed a bail application filed by a suspected fake Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Chidiebere Cyril Ndigwe.

Ndigwe was charged with a two-count charge of alleged employment scam and obtaining money under false pretense by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

EFCC alleged that he defrauded some job seekers by presenting himself to them as the CMD of UITH. One of the petitioners, the EFCC said, alleged that Ndigwe, with other persons still at large, made claims on Facebook on sales of employment slots.

EFCC’s counsel, Mustapha Kaigama, further said, “Candidates who are degree holders were asked to pay N400,000, while holders of the National Diploma (ND) were charged N200,000 for job slots.

“The defendant obtained about N18m from job seekers before he was busted.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his counsel, Chime C I, prayed the court to admit him to bail.

Justice Akinpelu ruled that the defendant failed to provide enough evidence to persuade the court to admit him to bail and adjourned to a date to be communicated to all the counsels.
