The Kwara State Commissioner of Police (CP), Paul Odama, has threatened to deal with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state found wanting in flouting his directive to tame the destruction or defacing of political parties’ posters and billboards.

In a statement, spokesman of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi said that, “DPOs; be prepared to face the consequences of dereliction of his (Odama’s) directive on the issue.

“The DPOs are warned to be prepared to face the consequences of dereliction of the directive.

“The CP has frowned at reports about the bare-faced disobedience to his admonition to political gladiators to warn their supporters against destruction and defacement of opposing political party posters during a parley with party executives a few weeks ago.

“Destruction of banners and billboards is against the Electoral Law and a crime against the freedom of expression as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is also morally unjustifiable.”

He added that parents and guardians were advised to warn their children and wards against becoming tools in the hands of mischievous politicians who were hell bent on jeopardising the level-playing ground the command had promised.
