The Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded seizures valued at over N1.2 billion within less than one month of the assumption of office of its Acting Area Controller, Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi.
Ogundeyi disclosed this on Tuesday during a briefing held at the command headquarters to showcase the achievements recorded since he assumed duty.
He said the seizures were the result of intelligence driven operations, sustained patrols and strict enforcement of the Customs Act 2023.
According to him, the command “intercepted 389 bales of second-hand clothing and 108 sacks of used bags along the Ogbomosho Eyenkorin Expressway at about 4:34am.
“Officers also seized 6,500 litres of Premium Motor Spirit at various patrol bases along the Bukuro border axis.”
He added that “450 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50 kilograms each were intercepted at patrol bases along the Okuta axis, while 170 pieces of used tyres were seized along the Lagos-Jebba Expressway.”
The acting controller further disclosed that three exotic vehicles were also intercepted during the period.
According to him, “The vehicles include a new Toyota Landcruiser VX 2025 model and a Lexus LX 600 2025 model, both intercepted around the Bode Saadu area of Kwara State, as well as a Mercedes Benz GLE350 2016 model intercepted along the Okuta axis.’’
He said the vehicles are currently under detention for further investigation.
Ogundeyi put the total Duty Paid Value of the seizures at N1,219,209,369.
He assured that the command would continue to deploy all lawful means to protect the nation’s economy.
