The replacement was sequel to the inability of the former Super Eagles handler to continue in the capacity owing to ill health, which has made him absent from the academy for some months now.

Addressing a news conference for the unveiling, the administrator of the academy, Mr. Kumbi Titiloye, said the recruitment of a new coach became necessary because the authority wants the best for the academy.

Responding, the new technical director, Mr. Gilligan, said he would bring to bear his age long experience on the job to transform the students inherited from his predecessor to better players for both Nigerian and European leagues.

 “I  have  known  Nigerian  players for long  and I  have had  the opportunity  of interacting with them  from time to time  even  at the English Premier League (EPL) level  ,so  this job may not be too difficult to  accomplish.  With the co-operation of the people I have on ground, we would be able to achieve our dream for the academy”, he stated

He  assured that he is determined to give his best to the academy  so that  the  students  will be able to realize their full potentials  in foot ball,  urging   them  to  make  honesty , hard work , diligence  and  respect their watch words in their day-to-day dealings so that they will be able to move forward.

In  his remark  Kwara  state  governor  Dr  Abubakar  Bukola Saraki,  who  was represented  by the state commissioner  for  Sports Dr  Abubakar  Amuda Kannike,  said  the time has come  for the  academy to regain its position in making sport a marketable event in the country.

Coach Paul Odey of the football academy expressed happiness that the vacuum created by the absence of Westerhof has finally been filled up by another competent coach from England.

“We are happy to have him here and he will enjoy our supports so that all of us can succeed together. Much happy we are to know that the new coach has accepted to live in the academy with the students in order to monitor their development,” Odey said.

Trustsports learnt that Gillian will go back to his country to prepare for his new assignment and will return to Ilorin soon.
