A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced three men to death by hanging.

Our correspondent reports that the presiding judge, Justice M.O. Folorunso, who found them guilty, appeared visibly emotional and wept before pronouncing the verdict.

The convicts, John Ndubisi Nbakogu, Bolakale Quadri (also known as Adaka), and Toheeb Suleiman, were arraigned before Justice M.O. Folorunso on a two-count charge of armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

According to the charge sheet, the trio, on March 2, 2024, at about 6 am, attacked one Aremu Dayo in the Oko-Erin area of Ilorin and robbed him of his Infinix Note 11 mobile phone at gunpoint.

They were later arrested and charged after police investigations linked them to the crime and recovered evidence.

Delivering judgment, Justice Folorunso held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge, who appeared visibly emotional, wept before pronouncing the verdict.

“The three of you will be hanged by the neck until you die,” Justice Folorunso declared, citing the provisions of the law that prescribe a mandatory death sentence for armed robbery once guilt is established.
