Kwara passes amended Sport Commission bill

Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the Sports Commission Amendment Bill for 2021.

The original bill was first passed in June before Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq sent an amendment to the House seeking for the abrogation of the position of the Director General.

According to the amended version, office of the Director General of the Commission has been abrogated to accord full Executive Powers to the Chairman of the Commission

The Amendment Bill was passed after considering the Report of House Committee on Youths, Sports, Information Culture and Tourism at the Committee of Whole chaired by lawmaker representing Isin Constituency, Olumide Awolola during plenary

Mr Awolola noted that the passage of the bill was supported by a majority of sports stakeholders at the Public Hearing on the bill.

Also Speaking, Abdullahi Danbaba, representing Kaiama Constituency said the amendment became imperative as being practised in other states of the federation

Deputy Clerk of the House, Alhaji Kareem Olayiwola read the bill for the third time prior to its final passage.

Speaker of the House, Engineer Yakubu Salihu directed Olayiwola to prepare a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.
