With the virtual take-over of major roads in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, by hawkers, the Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA) has frowned at the habit and called on the state ministries of Works and Transport, and Environment, as well as the state Road Maintenance Agency to restore sanity on all roads, especially on setbacks and walkways in the state capital.

 The legislature made the resolution at its sitting yesterday while considering a motion titled, ‘Checkmating Trading on Walkways in Ilorin Metropolis’ raised by a member representing Irepodun Constituency, Matthew Olaitan Babaoye.

 The Deputy Speaker of the House,  Elder Mathew Okedare, noted with displeasure that the habit of trading on walkways had become the order of the day in the state capital, thereby obstructing vehicular movement and adversely affecting the aesthetic value of Ilorin metropolis. 

 The legislator enjoined the state Ministry of Information and Communication to embark on advocacy in the mass media to sensitise the people on the dangers of trading on the walkways.
