The Group Managing Director of N.igeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Malam Mele Kyari, has commissioned a 120 metric ton (MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant at the Lokogoma area of Abuja.

Speaking shortly before he commissioned the plant owned by Emadeb Energy Services Ltd, Kyari lauded the firm for keying into the decade of gas being promoted by the government.

He said, “It’s going to reduce the cost of energy for Nigerians in the sense that LPG is cheaper than other energy sources. We are aware that a number of companies are doing this in line with Mr. President’s objective to implement the Decade of Gas.”

Kyari also said the rising price of gas is influenced by domestic supply and international market prices, noting that NNPC Ltd was working to increase the supply of gas. “What we are doing is to increase the supply of gas and once we increase the supply, prices will come down,” said Kyari.

The Chief Executive Officer of Emadeb Energy, Mr Adebowale Emmanuel Olujimi, said the gas plant model which also has an auto-conversion centre was built to promote clean energy in Abuja, which he said has huge potential.

“We decided to do this as a model for clean energy in Nigeria. We looked at the entire area and found that it has 56 estates and each of them has over 1,000 homes. 

“This is where Abuja lives, the population of Abuja is within this vicinity and that is why we are investing here.

“We will expand the capacity to 240MT LPG plant within a year and a half and we intend doing this in about six major locations across the country.”
