Organised Labour in Bauchi State has called on the state government to immediately withdraw the suspension of education secretaries, treasurers and directors of Primary Healthcare of the 20 local government areas of the state for industrial harmony.

At an emergency press briefing in Bauchi, Friday, the first vice chairman of the NLC in the state, Comrade Dauda Shu’aibu, cautioned the state government against what he described as “actions that can negate the cordial relationship between workers and the present administration”.

Bauchi State government had earlier suspended with immediate effect all Local Government Education secretaries, their treasurers and directors of Primary Healthcare in the 20 LGAs of the state over discrepancies in salaries of civil servants and pensioners in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ladan Salihu, who disclosed this in a press statement Friday in Bauchi, said the move was part of efforts to ensure sanity in the payment of workers’ salaries and that already, the state government has directed that salaries meant for the 41,488 names on the payroll without BVN be warehoused by the state accountant general pending further investigation.

Shu’aibu expressed dismay over the suspension of education secretaries, treasurers and directors of Primary Healthcare departments of all local governments of the state by the state government in an attempt to confirm the status of workers who have no BVN.

He however called on the affected workers to remain calm and await further directives from the leadership of the union.
