The Federal Ministry of labour and employment has presented to stakeholders the national reporting template on child labour in Nigeria validated by all stakeholders as a tool for proper monitoring, evaluation and data collection of child labour in Nigeria.

Addressing participants during a two-day capacity building workshop on the national reporting template on child labour for North-West labour officers held in Kano; permanent secretary of the ministry Bolaji Adebiyi represented by the ministry’s director inspectorate Solomon Ajibola stated that, prior to this time there had not been a national reporting template for proper monitoring and other related collation tools in regard to child labour in Nigeria.

According to him, the template had gone through a wide and rigorous consultative processes involving relevant sectors of the economy, government, labour unions, CSOs, faith based organisations among others.

“I am optimistic that a faithful implementation of the reporting template will go a long way in the elimination of hazardous and worst forms of child labour. It will not only facilitate the generation of data alone, but also it will serve as a valuation mechanism to facilitate the identification of gaps in the implementation of multi-sectoral strategies and processes,” said Bolaji.
