The union’s Secretary-General Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal, in a statement issued in Lagos over the weekend noted that the revelation by the United States that corruption is largely responsible for the inability of Nigerian armed forces to subdue the religious militants, had confirmed ASCSN’s position over the years that government should tackle corruption squarely or it would consume the entire country.
“Our fear is that if there is an external attack today, the armed forces will not have basic supplies of ammunition and other accessories to defend our territorial integrity because of corruption.  We are really in trouble,” the statement added.
