Labour Strike: Abuja airport, banks open for business
The industrial action by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) pushing for increased minimum wage has not affected businesses at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja and banks in Abuja.
Our correspondent who monitored the strike at the airport and banks in Abuja reports that normal business activities were happening in these sectors.
Normal flight operations were observed at the airport with all the airlines processing passengers normally. The NLC was also not sighted picketing any place at the airport.
Mr Abdulahi Saroke, Station Manager for Max Air, told newsmen Max Air and indeed other airlines were operating normally.
He said “The strike had not affected flight operations in all the airports Max Air operates into adding that he had received flights from Lagos and Kano and boarded passengers to those airports” as well.
He however noted that there is a possibility the government workers at the airport would join the strike and of that happens, flight operations might be crippled.
Mr Francis Akinjole, General Secretary, Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN), said that all aviation unions in the country were currently attending their national delegates conference at Asaba, Delta.

According to him, aviation unions are strongly with the NLC on the strike even though we are not on ground to enforce it.
In the banks, it was business as usual as well. Our correspondent visited banks in Central Area Abuja, Garki and Wuse Abuja. All the branches visited were offering full services to the customers.
One of the staff of Diamond Bank who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said they have not received notice from their union to join the strike.
“For now, our unions haven’t told us to join. If they do, we should join” he said.
