The police in Lagos have arraigned in court a construction site labourer, Iyere Osilamah, for allegedly stealing seven rolls of cables worth N245,000.

Osilamah allegedly stole the cable from the store at the ITB construction site on Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, and was arrested by the company’s security men who consequently handed him over to the police.

The suspect was yesterday arraigned in an Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos.

Osilamah, 40, who resides in Ikorodu, near Lagos, is facing a two-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offences on November 4, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded innocent of the offence.

The magistrate, Mrs A. T. Omoyele, granted Osilamah bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. She said that the sureties must be responsible and gainfully employed, their addresses verified, and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

She adjourned the case until November 29, 2017 for mention.
