A labourer, John Odah, has allegedly murdered her employer’s husband (names withheld) in Agbajo farm at Ilu Abo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Odah, 24, who was employed by the wife of the deceased to work on her farm, was accused of committing the crime last week.

It was learnt that the suspect allegedly macheted the man to death after the deceased scolded him over a hard drug found in his possession.

Before the sad incident, it was alleged that Odah had offered the deceased an Indian hemp, which the latter rejected, leading to an ensuing fight.

Odah, who was immediately arrested by the police, was later charged to the Akure Division of a Chief Magistrates Court on one count of murder.

The prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 2pm, April 18, 2025, at Agbajo Farm, in Ilu-Abo in Akure.

Akintimehin alleged that Odah inflicted fatal machete wounds on the deceased’s forehead and back, which eventually led to his death.

The charge reads, ‘’That you, John Odah, m, on April 18, 2025, at about 2pm at Agbajo farm via Ilu-Abo, in the Akure Magisterial District, did unlawfully macheted one Sunday Innocent ‘m’ with a cutlass on his forehead and back which resulted in his death.”

He said the offence contravened Sections 319(1) and 320(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant’s plea was not taken by the magistrates’ court.

Due to the nature of the offence, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant to any correctional facilities in the state pending advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Magistrate Mrs. O. Omotosho granted the request and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file for the DPP.

She adjourned the case till May 30, for further mention.
