A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, has sentenced a 26-year-old labourer, Solomon Ambrose, to four months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

Ambrose had admitted committing the offence and begged for leniency.

The judge, Maiwa Inuwa, gave the convict N5,000 option of fine and also ordered that the recovered cell phone be returned to the owner.

The judge warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crime.

The convict, who resides in Kubwa, Abuja, was charged with intimidation, cultism and stealing.

The prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, had informed the court that on June 10, one Randy Udokena, reported the case to the police.

Ukagha said that on the same date, the accused and two others now at large, threatened the complainant with an axe and forcefully collected his phone.

Ukagha said that in the process, the complainant raised an alarm, while the convict was arrested.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 397, 79 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
