An Associate Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Education, Sokoto State University, Dr Saheed Ahmad Rufai, has attributed misconceptions about sharia to lack of knowledge about some Islamic tenets. 

Dr Rufai stated this at a press conference to herald the unveiling of Islamic Training and Research Institute named, MANJMA in Lagos.

He said, “Most of the misconceptions that we are battling were occasioned by some scholars’ inability to relate appropriately with the concept of the issues revolving around the Sharia.

“It is about knowledge. Once they are people who are intellectually sound and who will be able to face modern challenges that are involved, that would be solved,” he said.

Rufai, who is also the founder of the institute, said MANJMA was established to enhance the quality of both western and Islamic education.

He said professors of Islamic studies, including the former vice chancellor, University of Algiers, Algeria, Prof Khamisi Hamidi, would attend the commissioning of the institute.

“The country will gain because our program is development focused. We train with an eye of what each trainee has to offer the country. So, it is evidence based and result orientated,” he said.
