The first phase of the New Makun City Housing project, a partnership between Lafarge Africa Plc and the Ogun State Property Investment Company (OPIC), has been flagged off. The 750-hectare project was one of the 40 people-oriented projects scheduled for commissioning to celebrate 40 years of the formation of Ogun State. It was commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, represented by the state governor, Ibikunle Amosu, in Sagamu, Ogun State last week.
Amosu, who congratulated OPIC and Lafarge for the landmark achievement, said that he was happy that the government was ‘working the talk’ with this project as well as with others that had been commissioned by the vice president since the commencement of the 40 years anniversary celebrations.
Also, Chief Executive Officer of WAPCO Operations, Lafarge Africa Plc, Adepeju Adebajo, said: “With the completion of the first phase of this project, the construction of which was in just 21days, Lafarge Africa is contributing to the provision of affordable housing to Nigerians and bridging the gap of 17 million housing deficit in the country.”
Speaking on the new buildings, Head, Affordable Housing & Building, Lafarge Africa Plc, Jumoke Adegunle, explained that Lafarge was setting a great example for organisations like OPIC as well as building owners and designers, by providing building solutions and assistance that makes the construction of houses faster and bring about up to 18 percent reduction in construction cost.
Chairman, Board of Directors, OPIC, Kunle Adesina, said that the success of the project was in keying in to the vision of Governor Amosu.
He acknowledged that Lafarge Africa Plc had brought in a new building solution to Ogun State by providing technology-based homes for the people of the state.
