The House also called on the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Information and Strategies to put measure in place at ensuring that residents do observe proper hygiene to end the spread of the disease.
The issue came up for discussion under matter of urgent public importance which was raised by the Chairman House Committee on Health Service, Suru Avoseh representing Badagry II constituency in the house.
While addressing the house, the lawmaker said, “The outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country including Lagos has been reported which needs to be properly handled to prevent it’s spread.
“It is a contagious disease, we have to guide against its spread because already 13 cases have been reported while three deaths have occurred. So prevention should be emphasized,” the lawmaker advised.
The lawmaker explained that the campaign over the sensitization was not to intimidate the public but to let the constituents know the danger inherent in the spread of the disease.
In his comment, Rotimi Olowo representing Shomolu I noted that it is not only some food that are dangerous to eat but also that the environment where the food is prepared is made hygienic adding, “the local government should begin to inspect all the food vendors to ascertain that the environment are safe so as not to endanger the lives of the residents.”
