The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to put machinery in motion for the relocation of the Mile 12 Market to forestall a re-occurrence of last week’s breakdown of law and order at the popular perishable goods market, in which lives and properties were lost.
 The Assembly, during plenary on Monday, also called for the relocation of the  Owode Onirin market located a few metres away from the Mile 12 Market. The members suggested that both markets should be moved to Ejinrin and Odo Irangunshin in the Epe area of the state respectively.
The resolution followed a motion moved by a member of the House, Jude Idimogu, under “Matters of Urgent Public Importance,” saying that last week’s destruction at Mile 12 was “unfortunate, barbaric and should have been avoided.”
Commiserating with the families of those that lost their lives in the crisis, the House condemned the killings and the attitude of security agents stationed at the market, who allegedly failed to nip the crisis the bud “before it snowballed into catastrophe.”
The House also called on Governor Ambode to constitute a high-powered committee of enquiry to investigate the crisis and punish the perpetrators.
The Assembly resolved that the governor should relocate the Mile 12 and Owode Onirin markets to the mentioned locations after conducting necessary feasibility studies and when accompanying infrastructures must have been provided.
