The association’s Chief Coach, Anthony Idolor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that the tournament would help to keep the players in form.

“We are set for our senior club handball competition, to test our players who will represent the state at the National Sports Festival between Nov. 27 and Dec. 9.

“We want to make sure that we keep them in proper shape by competing with their counterparts from clubs and to also promote the standard of the game in the state.

“We have written to clubs in the state which have strong handball teams to participate in both the male and female categories of the tournament,’’ he said.

The coach said that of the clubs invited, only the Police, the Army and J.J. Boys’ teams have indicated interest in the competition.

He, however, expressed optimism that others would show interest before the close of entries for the tournament or on the opening day of the competition. (NAN)
